Bill talks about the craft:
My experience with saxophone repair began over 40 years ago when, as a player, I began experimenting with key heights and other aspects of intonation. It quickly expanded into a professional approach of servicing and repairing the instruments for myself and local musicians. Inspired to perfect the craft, I consulted world class craftsmen along the way. When it came to dent work, I sought out experienced repair people as well as renowned jewelers. When it came to players, I listened to the musicians and their opinions about the acoustical outcome of each repair. This experience sent me on my unique journey of synthesizing the mechanics of the saxophone with its acoustical aspects.
Now, years later, I ultimately try to maintain an environment where musicians not only seek repairs to bring their horns into reasonable playing condition, but urge them to move to more meticulous acoustical alignment.
